History of Murshidabad Baharampur
Murshidabad is a historic city located in the Indian state of West Bengal. It was the capital of the Nawabs of Bengal and a center of political, economic, and cultural activities during the Mughal era. Baharampur is a town located in the Murshidabad district and was an important center of trade and commerce during the British colonial period. The history of Murshidabad dates back to the 16th century when it was a small village named Makhsudabad. In 1704, Murshid Quli Khan, the Diwan of Bengal under the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, founded the city and named it after himself. He made Murshidabad the capital of Bengal and developed it as a center of trade, commerce, and culture. During the 18th century, Murshidabad became the center of power for the Nawabs of Bengal.
